You found a great toy supplier in Chenghai. The price is right, the samples look good, and the MOQ fits your budget. But when your first shipment arrives at the port, customs holds the entire container — because the toys lack required certification.
This scenario happens hundreds of times every year. The cost includes detention fees, confiscation, return shipping, or even destruction of goods.
SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) is the mandatory national standard for toys in Indonesia, enforced since 2014. All toys sold or imported into Indonesia must have SNI.
Thailand’s TIS 685-1:2562 became mandatory in September 2022. It is based on EN 71 standards.
Two certification types:
Malaysia does not require mandatory certification for all toys, but EN 71 test reports are essential for market compliance.
SIRIM certification is increasingly required by Shopee & Lazada.
Vietnam requires Conformity Registration (CR) and testing based on ISO 8124.
Cost is lower compared to Indonesia or Thailand.
The Philippines uses BPS certification under DTI oversight. Imported toys must pass testing and apply the PS mark.
| Country | Certification | Cost (USD) | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia | SNI | $3,500–$8,000 | 3–6 months |
| Thailand | TIS 685 | $2,000–$5,000 | 2–4 months |
| Malaysia | SIRIM | $1,500–$4,000 | 2–4 months |
| Vietnam | CR Mark | $1,200–$3,100 | 6–14 weeks |
| Philippines | BPS | $2,000–$5,000 | 2–4 months |
Certification is not just a compliance task — it’s a competitive advantage on Shopee and Lazada. Certified products achieve higher conversion, better search rankings, and fewer account risks.
